The OPEC Fund for International Development is a multilateral development finance institution founded in 1976. It is owned by 12 member countries including Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Venezuela. The Fund works globally to foster economic growth and social progress in developing countries.

Job Summary:

The Accountant will maintain the Fund’s general ledger and ensure financial transactions are properly reconciled and posted in line with IFRS and internal accounting procedures. The role involves audit support, reporting, internal control reviews, and financial system enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting & Financial Control

• Maintain accurate accounting records and general ledger balances

• Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal financial guidelines

• Support internal and external audits

• Identify improvement opportunities and resolve financial control issues

Financial Reporting

• Prepare analyses, summaries, and schedules for quarterly and ad-hoc reporting

• Coordinate reconciliations of ledger accounts and sub-ledgers

• Update and enhance financial systems and accounting manuals

Monitoring & Recommendations

• Monitor postings for compliance and accuracy

• Provide expert advice on accounting and internal control issues

• Recommend improvements for financial operations and reporting processes

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with the Senior Accountant and other team members

• Collaborate across departments on SAP ERP modules (FI/CO and MM)

• Ensure timely and accurate reporting aligned with institutional goals

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Financial Management

• Accounting certification (e.g. ACCA) is an advantage

• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, including 2 years in an international financial institution

• Proficiency in SAP ERP (FI/CO, MM) and Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong knowledge of IFRS and corporate financial reporting standards

• Multilingual capability (Arabic, French, German, or Spanish) is a plus
