What Is AMEB Exam?
The Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) is a federated, privately funded corporation that provides a program of examinations for music, speech, and drama in Australia.
The AMEB Exam goes across universities like Melbourne, Adelaide, and Western Australia, the Minister for Education and Training, New South Wales, the Minister for Education, Training and Employment, Queensland, and the Minister for Education and Skills, Tasmania, through the University of Tasmania.
AMEB examinations cover a large range of skill levels; from a “Preliminary” grade suitable for very young children through to academic degree-level diplomas, including the Associate in Music (AMusA), the Licentiate in Music (LMusA), and ultimately the Fellowship in Music (FMusA), a diploma that is often conferred on an honorary basis to musical luminaries.
AMEB’s Level System
ABRSM’s piano grades are divided into three levels:
- Level 1 is preliminary to 4th grade
- Level 2 is 5th to 8th grade (certificate of performance)
- Level 3 is associate and licentiate diplomas (AMusA and LMusA)

1. New South Wales (NSW) AMEB
The NSW also takes the AMEB Exam, and if you are in New South Wales, then you have to undertake the exam under the region; that’s why the application link is given below.
To enrol for the NSW AMEB Exam, you have to ensure you have all the information you need to enrol a student, and when you log in to the AMEB Connect, where you fill in and check your contact details.
Afterwards, you can click on enrol a candidate, fill in the enrollment details, pay the exam fees, and check your enrollment confirmation. The AMEB exam date is given below through the links for each level.

2. Victoria AMEB
AMEB Victoria accepts enrolments on the understanding that teachers, private entrants, candidates, and parents agree to the policies and procedures notified on the website.
The video exam performance must be recorded no earlier than three (3) weeks prior to enrolment and submitted no later than 30 November.

3. Queensland AMEB
If you are a first-time enroller, you must register your details and email address to generate an enroller ID on the QLD, for this will provide you with access to purchase examinations, books, and consultations.
AMEB Qld accepts enrolments on the understanding that teachers, private entrants, candidates, and parents have read and agree to AMEB Qld policies and procedures such as;
- Accept that assessments shall be made strictly by the syllabus requirements, objectives, and regulations prescribed in the current year’s AMEB Manual of Syllabuses.
- Acknowledge that examinations will not be scheduled without payment
- Acknowledge it is the responsibility of the enroller and candidate to adequately prepare for the examination in line with the correct syllabus requirements
- Provide true and accurate information on the enrolment form
- Ensure candidates are ready to sit their examination from the first day of the examination session
- Pay the required fees associated with the enrolment
- Accept that late fees, change of enrolment, transfer fees, waitlist fees, and stipulated policy and procedure will be enforced.

4. University of Tasmania (UTAS) AMEB
If you wish to enrolled in the UTAS AMEB exam, then SCORE is available on UTAS only to assist you through the application process as the account holder (teacher, parent, or adult learner) is able to enroll candidates and access exam information, and view results.

5. The University of Western Australia (UWA) AMEB
AMEB offers an induction test in UWA which is to identify candidates’ strengths and weaknesses in technical work, pieces, aural tests, and general knowledge, and includes a general comment about progress.
There is no pass or fail as a certificate will be issued to the candidate after partaking in the examination process.
Anyways, for late enrolment queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the WA State Office for assistance, and also bear in mind that a late fee of $55 applies.
