Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the team that creates the nation’s most beloved chocolate? Are you looking for a stable, long-term career with a world-renowned company, where you can learn, grow, and be proud of the work you do every single day? Your journey starts here.
Mondelez International, the home of Cadbury, is seeking passionate and reliable individuals to join us as Chocolate Production Operatives at our historic and world-famous factory in Bournville, Birmingham. This is a remarkable opportunity to step into the food manufacturing industry with a global leader. We are not just offering a job; we are offering the first step on a rewarding career path.
Critically, no prior factory experience or specific educational qualifications are required. We believe in potential and are committed to providing world-class training. Your positive attitude, reliability, and willingness to learn are the only ingredients you need to apply.
About the Role
As a Chocolate Production Operative, you are the essential core of our manufacturing process. You will be immersed in a vibrant, fast-paced, and state-of-the-art production environment, working as part of a dedicated team to craft our iconic products to perfection.
Imagine your typical day: you’ll start your shift with a team briefing, discussing the day’s production targets and safety priorities with your Team Leader. From there, you’ll take your position on one of our advanced production lines. You might be carefully monitoring the flow of our famous liquid chocolate, ensuring it fills the moulds perfectly.
Perhaps you’ll be overseeing the intricate wrapping machines that give our bars their classic look, or you could be performing vital quality checks, ensuring every single product meets our impeccable standards.
Throughout your shift, you will be a guardian of our craft. You will learn to operate sophisticated machinery, troubleshoot minor issues, and work seamlessly with your colleagues to ensure a smooth and efficient production run.
You will be instrumental in maintaining the scrupulously clean and hygienic environment that is essential for food production. This is a hands-on, active, and engaging role where no two days are the same, and your contribution is visible in every product that leaves our factory.
Your Core Responsibilities
While we provide full training, your role will revolve around several key areas of responsibility. You will become a master of your station, taking pride in your contribution to our legacy of quality.
-
Skilled Machine Operation: You will receive comprehensive training to become a skilled operator of our advanced confectionery equipment. Your role will involve setting up, running, and monitoring machinery that performs tasks such as mixing, moulding, enrobing, and packaging our products.
-
Unyielding Commitment to Quality: You are our first and most important line of defence for quality. This involves conducting regular visual inspections, performing weight checks, verifying date codes, and ensuring all packaging meets our exacting standards. You will be trained to spot and flag any imperfections, guaranteeing that only the best products reach our customers.
-
Championing Health, Safety, and Hygiene: In food production, safety and hygiene are paramount. You will be a champion of our “safety-first” culture, strictly adhering to all health and safety procedures (including HACCP and COSHH). You will be responsible for maintaining an impeccably clean and organised workspace, contributing to the overall food safety integrity of our site.
-
Collaborative Teamwork and Communication: You will be part of a close-knit shift team. Success depends on clear communication and collaboration. You will work closely with your colleagues, Team Leaders, and support staff like engineers to solve problems, report issues, and ensure a smooth, continuous production flow.
-
Driving Continuous Improvement: We believe the best ideas often come from those closest to the process. You will be encouraged to actively participate in team meetings, share your observations, and offer suggestions on how we can improve our processes, reduce waste, enhance safety, and work more efficiently.
Who We Are Looking For
We are searching for individuals who possess the right mindset and attitude to thrive in our team. Your character is more important than your CV.
-
No Experience Necessary: We want to be clear—previous experience in manufacturing or a factory setting is not a requirement. We will teach you everything you need to know.
-
A Positive, “Can-Do” Attitude: We are looking for enthusiastic team players who face challenges with a positive outlook and are eager to contribute.
-
Reliability and Strong Work Ethic: Our team depends on you. Punctuality, dependability, and a commitment to doing a great job are essential.
-
A Keen Eye for Detail: The quality of our chocolate is in the small details. You must be meticulous and observant in your work.
-
A Team Player: You enjoy working collaboratively and can build strong working relationships with people from all backgrounds.
-
Commitment to Safety and Quality: You understand the importance of following rules and procedures to ensure your safety and the quality of our products.
-
Physically Able: This is an active role that requires being on your feet for extended periods and may involve some manual handling and lifting.
Your Future with Us
This role is your entry point to a world of opportunity at Mondelez International. We are passionate about promoting from within and providing our employees with the tools they need to build a long and successful career.
Your journey begins with a comprehensive induction program where you’ll learn about our company, our values, and the fundamentals of food safety and manufacturing. From there, your training continues on the factory floor, where you’ll be paired with experienced mentors and Team Leaders who will guide you every step of the way.
As you gain experience, you’ll have the chance to become a multi-skilled operator, master different production lines, and take on more responsibility. High-performing individuals can progress into roles such as a Skilled Technical Operator, a Quality Champion, or a Team Leader. We also support our employees in gaining formal qualifications, such as NVQs in Food Manufacturing, to further bolster their careers.
