Focussed primarily on our Australian and New Zealand channels businesses, including E!, Universal TV, Oxygen, Bravo (NZ) and Hayu, the Legal Intern will work with our local Legal and Business Affairs team in supporting our various commercial teams across a wide variety of legal, compliance and business affairs matters, in an exciting and fast-paced office.

The Internship

We are looking for someone 3 days a week, flexible around university commitments, with the program running between March and December.

Job Description

1. Review of key business contracts, including program licences, research, marketing and general services agreements, and maintenance of NBCU contract database.
2. Assistance with company administration and corporate secretarial document and compliance matters.
3. Research on key legal developments, and preparation of briefing notes for NBCU legal team.
4. Assistance with drafting of legal policies and legal training materials, and assist in provision of staff training.
5. Assistance with rights clearance matters, preparation of crew and participant releases, administration of marketing competitions and related initiatives.
6. Ad hoc filing, administrative and general team-support responsibilities.
7. Liaising with external licensors, suppliers and customers as required.

Qualifications

• Currently completing a territory degree in Law in New South Wales, second year or later.
• Preference given to students who have successfully completed Contract Law, and Media Law / Intellectual Property Law subjects.
• Experience in reviewing and drafting of contracts, and in the preparation of written legal advice, acquired on-the-job or through course work.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
• High level of self-motivation and ability to work autonomously.
• Passion for the law, and strong interest in television and film industries.
• Ethical and responsible. Leading others by exhibiting honesty, fairness and diligence.
• Exceptional organisational skills and high level of attention to detail.
• Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills.
