The Opportunity
The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences (COS) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a visiting instructor or lecturer position in the Film and Mass Media program, in the cinematography and lighting area. This position is a temporary, 9-month, non-tenure earning appointment, recurring up to four years. This position is anticipated to begin in August 2025.
The successful candidate will contribute to the Film and Mass Media program’s mission by teaching undergraduates and, depending on the highest degree attained, may also teach at the graduate level. Graduate-level activities may include supporting the MFA degree by providing critiques, mentoring, and serving on graduate thesis committees. The teaching load for this position will be four courses per semester, as well as participation in school and university service, including committee work.

NSCM is a large, student-centered school with a collegial and friendly faculty and staff. Students are active in internships and organizations on and off campus. The NSCM Film and Mass Media program offers a B.A. in film production that emphasizes collaborative skills in filmmaking, a BFA in film production that emphasizes creative directorial skills (limited access), and an MFA in feature film production that offers students creative opportunities in fiction, nonfiction, or experimental cinematic modes. Minimum Qualifications:
  • A master’s degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) in film production or a related field (e.g., film production, screenwriting, film arts, mass communication, etc.) from an accredited institution by the start of employment. Applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree as their highest degree will be considered for an instructor only if they can document ten years or more of professional experience within the film industry.
  • Must have a record of professional accomplishments and demonstrate a working familiarity with film production technologies and processes.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and give evidence showing the ability to work effectively in a collaborative education environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience and demonstrate fluency in working from international settings on independent feature-length films involving cinematography, lighting and grip, editing and post-production workflows, post-sound design, color grading, or mixing.
  • Evidence of some teaching experience in one or more of the following: cinematography and lighting.
